This process is necessary for third-party applications that do not integrate with Microsoft's six-digit request form. For most people, this only applies to their mobile phone's email application. Other third-party email solutions may require it as well. If an application is asking your for a password for a Microsoft service, your normal one is not working, and 2FA has been enabled, you likely need an App Password as described below.
⦁ First, have your device/app open to where your 'normal' password would be entered and is not working
⦁ From any computer, open a web browser and go to aka.ms/MFASetup
⦁ Log in as normal with your email address, password, and 2FA code if requested
⦁ On the setup screen, click the App Passwords option - see screenshot
⦁ On the next screen click Create
⦁ In the Name field type something descriptive i.e. Phone Email - then click Next
⦁ You will receive a long and inconvenient alphabetic password - do not close the window yet - type this password into whatever device/app is requesting it
⦁ Once the device/app is logged in successfully you can click the Close button and then close the browser window - you're done!
